A look back at 35 years of accessories with Dominique Denaive

In 1989, Premiere Classe started out in Paris with the ambition of making its mark in the world of accessories. To celebrate its longevity, we asked 3 brands from the early days to share their memories with us.

Our first guest: jewellery designer Dominique Denaive.

Do you remember the first time you took part in Premiere Classe?

Of course I remember; it was in 1982 at the Salon des Halles, before arriving at the Tuileries for a show called "La Mode aux Tuileries". Then I took part in the first sessions of Premiere Classe, first in 'Mode Village' in hall 7 of the Prêt à Porter Paris show at Porte de Versailles.

Do you have any special memories of those years?

Loads! I'm mainly thinking of Premiere Classe in Dubai, with its magnificent party, but also parties in Paris, on a barge on the Seine, then at the Jeu de Paume... and the avalanche of Japanese buyers asking us where the Americans are. I remember meeting exhibitors who have since become friends, and laughing with our neighbours in quiet moments. In short, some great memories combining fashion and celebration.

What does Premier Classe mean to you?

It's an export-oriented, top-of-the-range show with amazing accessories that you won't find anywhere else. It's Parisian chic in the heart of Paris. It's Fashion Week closer to the shows. It's a more intimate show than the big exhibition halls.
